Her Royal Highness's Annual Yuletide Carol Concert Honours Unsung Heroes
The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.
The large audience will hear a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
A Theme of Kindness and Compassion
The theme of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.
A Steady Comeback
The princess has been making her own steady comeback to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, last month delivering her first public speech for two years, in which she talked about recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Performance and Potential
Attendees entering the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians backed by the charitable trust Future Talent, set up with the help of the former royal to broaden opportunities for music lessons.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the charity, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in tonight's service.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.
Generations Gathering
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.
Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.
That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to raise money for food banks.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been decorated with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by television on December 24th.
